Escape to the Chateau

Our Brentford branch has been helping a DIYer whose stunning French Chateau was recently featured on the popular ‘Escape to the Chateau DIY’ programme on Channel 4.

Paul Golledge, who is based in Chiswick in London, bought le Chateau de Montvason in Normandy with his partner Emma Newton three years ago and they’ve been gradually restoring it back to its original state ever since. The Channel 4 team followed Paul and Emma’s progress over the last 12 months as they refurbished the property before opening it up to guests as a stylish B&B and their exploits were aired as part of the programme in March.

With over 30 rooms, it’s certainly been a labour of love and both Paul and Emma have come to rely on the team at our Brentford store for decorating tips and product advice as well as colour-matching paints to tone in with the Chateau’s original interior design and colour scheme.

The stunning white salon room for example, has been painted using Crown Trade Acrylic Eggshell in two colours, ‘old white’ for the ceiling and ‘Montvason blue’ for the trim work. Both colours were specially mixed for Paul by the Brentford CDC team.

Paul says: “We fell in love with the Chateau as soon as we saw it. It’s got a fantastic story and we knew we wanted to fully embrace its history as part of the restoration. Getting the paintwork just right both inside and out was a key part of the whole project and I’m so pleased with how it’s all coming together.

“The team at Brentford have been very helpful – the level of service is really exceptional and they were always happy to answer any of my questions and advise on the best products to use as I tackled each part of the project. In fact I’ve pretty much used Crown products throughout and I’ve been very happy with both the application and finish.

“Sourcing the perfect colours was really important as we wanted to make sure it was as in-keeping with the period as possible and the team at Brentford certainly delivered. I even took a piece of woodwork from the Chateau which they used to precisely match our paint to the colour of the existing paint.”

Paul and Emma still have 14 more rooms to renovate, you can follow their progress on Facebook or Instagram and watch their videos to see how the Chateau is progressing.
