Primers for Wood vs Walls
Use a specialist wood primer for skirting boards, architraves, and interior trim. These primers are formulated to penetrate timber, prevent tannin bleed, and provide a perfect base for gloss, satin, or eggshell trim paints.
For walls, one of the most reliable options is Crown Trade Covermatt Drywall Primer, which is ideal for new plaster, plasterboard, and high-absorption areas.
Make sure surfaces are clean and dry before application, and lightly sand glossy areas to create a surface key.
Stain-Blocking & Problem-Solving Paints
For surfaces affected by water stains, smoke damage, or general discolouration, we recommend Crown Trade PX3 or PX4 primers. These specialist products block persistent stains and provide a stable base for finishing coats. Unlike general emulsions, they are formulated specifically for stain suppression and adhesion to tough substrates.
